Shame

"Are you ashamed of any of it?"
There really is nothing that can prepare you for that question. Especially when it's coming from your 17-year-old brother in a cabin with four of your friends around you. Not after you've had conversations with your best friend about how you wish you could go back and change things, but it doesn't really matter now because the past can't be changed. When you feel like that number is branded into your very soul, and no matter how much you want to wish it away it'll always be there. And if it really does make a difference, then what should it matter the number? It's all the same, so it doesn't matter.

Am I ashamed?

More than I can put into words. But it won't change a thing, so why should I care?
